Ages of Autism, The

Synopsis
Focuses on the wide variety of abilities and needs of people with autistic spectrum disorders and highlights the need for different services and support to enable people to reach their full potential. There are interviews with a parent, people with autistic spectrum disorders and professionals in the field of autism, discussing issues related to diagnosis, early intervention, schooling and adult life.The people with autistic spectrum disorders featured are: a 7-year-old boy who attends a school specifically for children with autism; an 18-year-old man and 24-year-old woman with Asperger’s Syndrome who live in their own homes with the help of 24-hour support; a man of 49 who wasn’t diagnoses with Asperger’s Syndrome until he was 46. He lives in his own property and has always had a full-time job where he now receives supporat from a supported employment service. The video will be useful for health professionals, providing a broad overview of this complex area and forparents and family members in explaining the issues concerning diagnosis and the steps to follow after diagnosis.
