Play and Development

Synopsis
Play is the single most important way children have to learn the skills needed to survive in the world. The video is based on actual sequences with clear explanations of how different forms of early play are not just messing about, but an essential part of child development. We see how play is involved in all areas of development - physical, social and intellectual. Social play is shown helping the baby master not only numerous social, but also physical and intellectual and communication skills. Solitary play is also essential for learning and we see how babies are able to initiate and concentrate on play on their own if they are given the right environment and encouragement. Discusses what they are learning and what they need to help them play constructively. Shows how babies develop their playing abilities during their first year and how the role of the adult changes to fit in with the baby’s different stages of development.
