Understanding the Defiant Child

Synopsis
Tantrums, resistance to chores, negativity - the occasional clashes between parents and children are not uncommon. But when a child’s defiance is chronic and disruptive of family life, he or she may have Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). In this video for school practitioners, parents, students of child behaviour, teachers and clinicians, Dr. Barkley discusses: the nature of ODD; its causes;why it should be dealt with early; what can be done. Provides a vivid picture of what we know about ODD and presents real-life scenes of family interactions and commentary from parents. Viewers learn how to distinguish ODD from milder forms of misbehavior, long-term outcomes for defiant children, and the relationship between ODD and ADHD.

A review and amplification of the material covered in the video is included in the accompanying manual, which also provides helpful supplementary information.
