Equality Challenge: An Introduction to Equal Opportunities
- Synopsis
- An equal opportunities ‘primer’ for managers and everyone else at work, consisting of a short video and 32 questions for discussion. The video takes the form of short dramatised episodes set in a department store and a doctor’s surgery, and deals with relationships with colleagues, staff, customers and suppliers. Conversations between the characters challenge the viewer to notice the assumptions that lead us to treat people according to our stereotypes about them rather than according to their individual needs. The range of inappropriate behaviour is wide and illustrates that equality issues are far more pervasive and subtle than the traditional focus on minority groups might lead us to think. Asks such questions as: What is equal opportunities? What are my rights? What are my responsibilities? Why does it matter?
The video version is accompanied by a manual with suggested answers, and this material is included on the DVD. - Language
