Honey Bee Dance, The

Synopsis
Looks at the dance language of honey bees, used to commuinicate to other bees location, direction relative to the sun and distance of flower patches. Shows how the dance forms an integral part of the foraging ecology of the bees; how it is part of the bees’ information transfer system; how to record the dance language and collate the data; how to tranlate this into foraging locations. Aims to give students the scientific skills necessary to conduct research on the honey bee dance language, to work with an observation beehive and to decode the langauge. Concludes with a 13-minute sequence of the observation hive showing bees performing the wag-tail dance.
