Food
- Synopsis
- Aims to link issues in science, technology, society and the environment, and begins with a 10-minute INSET segment. Looks at the post-World War 2 American diet, which has been influenced by speed and convenience of preparation and is affected by health concerns and marketing strategies. Many factors have brought about changes in processing, packaging and distribution, and genetic engineering has been used to increase agricultural production. Examines the international effects of American eating habits, as beef production causes loss of rain-forest areas and freon gases in refrigerators may affect the ozone layer.
