Synopsis
Part 1: Animated film shows the uses of astronomy in field surveys and the effects of the relative motions of the earth, sun and stars.
Part 2: Animated film illustrates the geographical and celestial co-ordinates and the astronomical triangle.
Part 3: Animated film explains the units of measurement of time in both solar and sidereal days. Illustrates the equation of time and shows its connection with the solstsices and equinoxes. Shows the relationship between solar and sidereal time and introduces the factor R, showing how this connects time and longitude.
Part 4: Field determinations: explains the difference between azimuth and altitude and azimuth by hour angle. Shows the limitations when observing to both sun and stars. Explains grid convergence and how it is applied.
