Extracapsular Lens Extraction and Intraocular Implantation

Synopsis
Cataract extraction can be performed as as intracapsular or an extracapsular technique. In recent years, extracapsular extraction (in which the posterior capsule is left in the eye) has become the more standard procedure. This provides support for the artificial lens to be placed in the same region of the eye from which the human lens was removed. After a brief introduction, which includes statistical and physiological information, the video deals with the technique of extracapsular lens extraction and the posterior chamber lens implant, but in addition it looks briefly at intracapsular extraction. The surgeon is Mr Eric Arnott.
