Effects of Sympathomimetics on Perfused Rat Mesentery
- Synopsis
- Preparation: perfused rat mesentery. The method of constant volume perfusion of a vascular preparation is demonstrated as well as the measurement of changes in vascular resistance using pressure transducers. The Biovideograph record gives the results of administration of the three sympathomimetics, noradrenaline, adrenaline and isoprenaline and shows that adrenaline possesses the highest potency. Addition of phentolamine markedly inhibits the effects of noradrenaline and adrenaline, whereas propranolol has no antagonist action against noradrenaline. Summarises the experimental evidence for ascribing preponderant sympathomimetic action to an }-adrenoceptor site.
