Drilling to Sample and Monitor Groundwater

Synopsis
This programme films two 60m boreholes being drilled into mixed measures and sandstone beds, using Rotary Percussion Drilling. An analysis of 1m interval samples shows how the actual geology differed from the published geological maps. The holes are artesian, and the fitting of piezometer tubing and the subsequent capping of the holes is shown. The programme ends by showing field instrumentation being used to investigate aquifer properties and to measure the chemical properties of the groundwater.
