Dna: Replication and Mitosis

Synopsis
Examines the experimental use of techniques such as gel electrophoresis in DNA fingerprinting analysis. Discusses the mechanism of replication using a mixture of phase-contrast microscopy and accompanying graphics. Refers to DNA polymerase activity and explains the structure of nucleotides. This leads to a combination of simple ideas and complex explanations on lagging strands and aspects of DNA behaviour. Onion root-tip cells are shown to depict the sequence of cell division. Compression and activities of histone proteins are demonstrated with graphics, followed by the nature of chromosome activity. Cytokinesis is shown in plants and animals.
