Dissection of Frog Sciatic Nerve
- Synopsis
- Shows the pithing of the frog using a mounted pin and its preparation for dissection. The skin is stripped from the lower part of the abdomen and the route of the sciatic nerve from exit in the spinal cord as far as the knee is traced and dissected. The achilles tendon and gastrocnemius muscle is freed and the tendon tied. The method of dissection of the muscle and nerve from the rest of the frog is demonstrated. Emphasises the importance of care in the dissection and the importance of irrigation with frog-ringer solution at every stage.
