Synopsis

Shows the use of vaginal cytology at the Guide Dogs for the Blind’s Breeding Centre, which has helped increase the rate of conception from 70% to 92%. Vaginal cytology techniques can be used to identify the bitch’s most fertile period - this is the maximum peak of anuclear cells, at which time the bitch should be mated. The programme identifies the four states of the oestrus cycle: anoestrus, prooestrus, oestrus and metoestsrus, and covers the effects of progesterone, oestrogen, prolactin, luteinizing and follicle stimulating hormones.
