Cranial Cruciate Repair in the Dog

Synopsis
A modified ‘over-the-top’ technique for repair of a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament in the stifle joint of the dog is demonstrated. A strip of fascia lata and patellar ligament is used. The fascia is taken through a bone tunnel drilled in proximial tibia and is threaded between the femoral condyles and over the proximal aspect of the lateral femoral condyle. This ensures that both the origin and insertion of the fascial replacement are close to those of the original ligament.
