Conscious Sedation with Intravenous Benzodiazepines

Synopsis
After discussing the type of patient for whom conscious sedation is the treatment of choice, the programme discusses the benzodiazepines in general before concentrating on those used for dental purposes: diazepam and midozolam. The doses and effects of both these drugs are discussed, along with contra-indications and patient care. After demonstrating the anatomy, the technique of injection is shown, both in the back of the hand and in the elbow. The stages of ptosis are illustrated, and post-operative procedure is shown.
