Colonising Cyberspace
- Synopsis
- Virtual reality, VR and cyberspace are all terms for computer-graphics developments by which people can enter imaginary three-dimensional worlds and explore, using ‘eyephones’ strapped to the face and special gloves that interpret gestural commands. The effect is overwhelmingly convincing, with the viewer feeling actually present in the computer-simulated artificial worlds, able to walk or fly, change point of view and directly manipulate objects. This programme takes the viewer on a journey through the landscape of virtual reality, and goes on to show a NASA application and to explore some cultural implications.
