Cholecystectomy

Synopsis
Cholecystectomy is now the commonest elective general surgical abdominal operation and there is every indication that the incidence of biliary disease is increasing throughout the Western world. The major steps of the procedure are described and demonstrated: mobilisation of the gall bladder, packing away of adjacent viscera, dissection of the cystic duct and artery, cholangiogram, ligation and division of the cystic duct and artery, removal of the gall bladder from its bed.
