Synopsis

Discusses the origin of the heart rate and sinus rhythm. A number of physiological manoeuvres are performed to illustrate the way in which the heart responds to the demands of the circulation. Animated diagrams are used to show the behaviour of the autonomic nervous system in these circumstances. The videograph ends with illustrations of various commonly encountered pathological arrhythmias.
