Synopsis
Interviews in Japanese of two academics from the School of East Asian Studies at the University of Sheffield, Dr Harukiyo Hasegawa and Yoko Sellak: 1) Dr Hasegawa in interviewed by Professor Jo-Seol Kim, visiting from Shinshu University. Dr Hasegawa talks about changes in the economy and the effect this has had on business management in Japan; 2) Yoko Sellek is interviewed by Professor Harada, Professor of Industrial Relations at Asahi University. They discuss the social consequences of Japanese business, in particular problems faced by foreign workers in Japan. These tapes help students build a knowledge of the vocabulary and characteristic modes of expression in the areas of business and the economy so they can follow complex debates in the media and take part in discussions on these subjects at a high level of sophistication.
