Zululand Mystery, The

Synopsis
In 1894 David Bruce, an officer in the Army Medical Service, was sent to Zululand to investigate the outbreak of a mysterious wasting disease which was ravaging the herds of cattle. He showed that the disease was identical to the ‘fly disease’ killing off the horses of the European hunters. He found that both conditions were the result of infection with trypansome parasites transferred from the local game animals to the cattle and horses by the bite of the tsetse fly.
