Zoonoses of Slaughterhouse Workers and Meat Handlers

Synopsis
Zoonoses are communicable diseases common to man and vertebrate animals. Slaughterhouse workers are occupationally exposed to zoonoses of food animals as a direct result of their intimate contact with live animals before slaughter and their carcasses and products during slaughter and dressing. Examines with those zoonoses which are important to red meat and poultry slaughterhouse workers. These are grouped according to their main presenting symptoms in man. Discusses important aspects of the microbiology of the causal organisms and describes post-mortem lessons in slaughtered animals and clinical features in man.
