Synopsis
Aims to extend the general practitioner’s knowledge of ‘Toxocara canis’ and ‘T. cati’; describes the egg and its ability to develop despite adverse conditions and the life cycle of ‘T. canis’. Shows typical clinical signs and emphasises the importance of early anthelminthic treatment. Suggests methods of control of ‘T. canis’ eggs on the ground with reference to dog exercise areas in parks. Contrasts ‘T. cati’ infection of the cat with ‘T. canis’ in the dog.
