Synopsis
Explains the principles of testing for aerobic fitness and shows how to conduct three submaximal cycle ergometer tests for aerobic fitness and how to measure maximal aerobic power. Looks at the advantages of submaximal tests and cycle ergometer tests, the preparations for the tests and underlying assumptions. Shows how to conduct and calculate the power output from the aerobic power index of the tri-level fitness profile, the Astrand cycle ergometer and the modified Sjostrand PWC 170 test. Presents examples of the maximal aerobic power required for high-level performance in various sports.
