Synopsis
A film record of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s heroic but ill-fated attempt to cross the Antarctic in 1914-1916, photographed by Frank Hurley. Shackleton’s ship ‘Endurance’ became stuck fast in the pack ice for months and was abandoned when the ice crushed the vessel.

DVD also includes commentary by film historian Luke McKernan; recently discovered footage of the ill-fated Ross Sea Party with commentary by Polar historian Kelly Tyler; additional footage from Shackleton’s last expedition Sothward on the Quest; stills from the Royal Geographical Society; a recording of Shackleton’s voice; map of the expedition with narrative by Kelly Tyler.
