He reasons that large gravity slumps around the US continental shelf breach the hydrate zone and release huge quantities of methane trapped beneath. His theory is built on the experiences of the oil and gas industry, observations from scientists worldwide, and visits to the mud volcanoes of Azerbaijan and the depths of the Atlantic.
