Skin Deep: Skin Replacement Using Donor Allograft and Cultured Patient Cells

Synopsis
Examines different ways of treating patients with skin loss - particularly those with severe burns. Interviews with scientists, nuses, consultants and patients are used to explain this area of medicine, togethet with case histories of patients. Looks in detail at: the harvesting and processing of donor skin; the problems of getting donors; culture of patients’ own cells in the laboratory; current work on ‘reconstructured skin’ - a laboratory-made composite of donor skin and patients’ cultured cells; new approaches in tissue engineering.
