Sites of Action of Drugs on the Isolated Intestine Rabbit Duodenum (2 Parts)

Synopsis
Preparation: rabbit duodenum. Reviews the possible sites of drug action on the longitudinal muscle coat of the intestine and includes a consideration of adrenoceptor involvement. The Biovideograph record shows the establishment of initial responses to a range of parasympathomometics and their selective inhibition by mecamylamine and atropine. The next section compares the responsivenesss produced by three sympathomimetics, noradrenaline, adrenaline and isoprenaline, and the pattern of their inhibition as a result of the addition of the }-adrenoceptor antagonist phentolamine or the ~-adrenoceptor antagonist propranolol.
