Part 1 describes the different phases of normal and abnormal oestrous cycles. Briefly describes the mare’s behaviour in and out of heat and suggests treatment of abnormal oestrous cycles. Part 2 aims to help practitioners who are unfamiliar with the mare to gain as much information as possible from rectal and vaginal examination. Includes a discussion between the author and six other veterinary surgeons.
