POWERS OF TEN Illustrates the relationship between the number ten and the size of the physical universe. The reference point is one square metre of land in Chicago. The camera zooms outward, time and distance increase in increments of ten until the outer galaxies are reached. Returning to earth, the progression is from the human scale into the micro world down to the nucleus of a carbon atom. The film has moved in real time over its course of 40 powers of 10.
