Peripheral Agnosia: Early Disorders of Visual Object Recognition
- Synopsis
- Case study showing a subject who has problems recognising objects and colours. He makes visual errors based upon piecemeal analyses of the objects. He cannot match objects for function, nor can he distinguish nonsense objects from real objects. His ability to draw objects from memory, and to describe the visual properties of objects, suggests that his stored structural knowledge about objects is intact. However, he appears to be unable to map incoming visual information on to this stored knowledge, with the result that objects are not recognised.
