Synopsis
Discusses the origins of printed map-making in Britain, from the work of Roman surveyors in the second century AD and the first printed world atlas published in Bologna in 1477. The methods of engraving and printing early maps are demonstrated. Illustrates the early maps and atlases of Ptolemy, Mercator, Ortelius, Saxton, Camden, John Speed, Blaeu, Ogilby and Morden.
