New Orleans Black Indians: A Case Study in the Arts
- Synopsis
- Introduces the blend of American Indians and blacks which comprise the black Indian tribes of New Orleans as they carry out a century-old tradition of participation in the pre-Lenten Mardi Gras festival. Their masks, ethnic songs and dances, the symbolic designs on their costumes, all serve to create a living history of their folk art which is passed from generation to generation.
