Management of Innovation: Langbrae High School

Synopsis
A simulation set in a junior high school in the east of Scotland. The print material sets out the basic information on the school: size, layout, type of pupil and details of some of the staff. The headmaster wishes to introduce some independent learning, based on resources, for some of the classes in the school. The tape of the heads of department meeting, supplemented by some memos from the headmaster, sets the scene for the simulation. Attitudes of some members of staff involved are also recorded. An outline of the audio-visual equipment, materials and production facilities in the school is included in the booklet. The first part of the simulation calls for a critical assessment of the way in which the innovation has been managed so far, and a plan to implement the ideas of the headmaster. In the second part, participants are allocated the roles of those members of staff on the planning committee and asked to produce a final version of the plan for the project.
