Learning to Teach Science in the Secondary School 1
- Synopsis
- Generic Stage 1: Looks at a typical school day and follows six students through registration and tutor time and through various lessons such as French, English, drama, history and design & technology. The sequence offers PGCE students a glimpse of the learning demands placed upon a pupil during normal day.
Subject specific - science 1: Shows the work of some of the teachers in a science department in a big London school. Starting with a departmental meeting it shows in turn a lesson ‘rates of reaction’ (National Curriculum Key Stage 3), a biology lesson, a classification (Key Stage 4) and the department head on metal reactivities (Key Stage 3). The teachers identify important issues, and in a departmental meeting realise the need for teachers to relate to one another as well as to the children. - Series

- NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
