Inside China: The Newest Revolution

Synopsis
Filmed in two Han communities around the city of Wuxi in south-east China. Looks at the new emphasis on material incentives after years of Maoist austerity. Four women sing ‘we exchanged our chickens for a recorder, we exchanged our chickens for a TV...', indicating how agriculture has moved from a highly collectivised system to the new ‘responsibility system’ where the main unit is the household. *RAI
