The JISC commissioned a case study on how the BUFVC assists Carshalton College in benefiting from moving image and sound in learning and teaching. The College, a medium sized institution with some 4,000 learners makes regular use of rich media in their activities. The case study outlines how the BUFVC assists Carshalton College in making this happen through a combination of its online services, the BUFVC helpdesk and the off-air recording backup service.

‘We find that immediacy matters. If lecturers can use current television programmes to illustrate a point, it makes a difference. This is true at all levels – programmes such as ‘Horizon’ are as valuable to our foundation degree courses as more popular material such as ‘You are what you eat’ is to our PSHE courses.’
Diane Wilson (e-Learning librarian, Carshalton College)
