Description
Havovi Todd reports on possible action by the Department of Public Prosecutions to charge British Rail with corporate manslaughter, following the publication of the report from the inquiry into the Clapham rail disaster. The report on the train crash, which killed 35 people and injured 113 others, says BR allowed safety standards to fall to dangerous and unacceptable levels. The inquiry’s Chairman, Sir Anthony Hidden, says the direct cause was undoubtedly faulty wiring work at the Clapham signal box. Includes statements by legal expert Julian Fulbrook, LSE; John Prescott, Labour transport spokesman; Sam Wallis, former BR worker; Cecil Parkinson, Transport Secretary; Jimmy Knapp, NUR.
