- LBC Crown FM’s sailing correspondent, Keith Howell interviews chairman of the Whitbread round the world race committee, Admiral Charles Williams, following news Aleksei Gryshenko, skipper of the Soviet yacht Fazisi, has killed himself at the end of the first leg. After searching for 24 hours Uruguayan police found him hanging from a tree near the finishing port of Punta del Este. A letter left by the dead man is being studied by the authorities.
