- Description
- Prison officers at Risley, Warrington have claimed that rioting prisoners virtually destroyed the remand centre’s education wing. But a management spokesman says the officers’ claims are exaggerated. According to the Prison Officers Association, inmates occupying D-Wing broke through the roof of the adjacent education centre and destroyed equipment worth thousands of pounds. When officers attempted to stop the new violence they were met with a hail of bricks and rubble. However, management says the prisoners may have caused some damage trying to break into the education centre, but it is only minor and the centre itself remains intact. POA chairman at Risley, Graham Harrison, gives an account of the situation. Female reporter not identified. Report for Piccadilly Radio.
