- Description
- The 45th anniversary of the end of World War II has been marked by the World Jewish Congress with a ceremony at the Wannsee Villa, the lakeside mansion in Berlin where, in 1942, a dozen high-ranking Nazi party officials met to decide the fate of millions of Jews. They decided on the final solution - a decision to exterminate the entire Jewish population of Europe. At this morning’s ceremony was (Washington?) correspondent Catherine Field. A statement written for the occasion by Elie Wiesel was read out in various languages (here in English); Erhardt Klauser(?) of the West Berlin Senate talks about the setting up of an education centre at the villa; additional contribution from Isi Liebler, Vice-President of the WJC.
