Play synopsis: Comedy set in Paris and London. The first act - in which an artist reacts badly to being left by his wife - turns out to be a play within a play. The actor-character, playing the part of the artist, goes on to complain after the show that he is not at home in the part. Yet their lives are observed to have some similarities (the actor’s wife leaves him and he reacts in the same way, for example). The third act shows us the second act of the play within the play.
Production history: This seems to have been first produced in English in 1951 but it was likely to have been performed in French earlier.
