Play synopsis: This play tells the story of the spiritualist Marcus Dane and his wife Bella, a medium, whose practices have been discredited in the press. They win a legal case against the newsppaer but they are awarded only a farthing as damages. The stigma of doubt remains and Dace is challenged to give final proof of his powers to clear his name.
Production history: The Radio Times and The Listener suggest that the original play on which the 1959 BBC production was based was a work for the stage, although no information on its life on stage has yet come to light.
