Play synopsis

The action of the play begins in the country home of the Treowains on the Welsh border in 1873: ‘It is a charming love story, unfolding in an atmosphere of antimacassars, bobbing servants, and match-making mammas. There are faithful lovers, a dashing young officer, two beautiful daughters, and a father whose gruff exterior hides a heart of gold’ (Radio Times, 28 February 1958, p. 15).
