Play synopsis

This play takes its name from the racing calendar. It is set in the luxurious world of racehorse-owners, Ascot and country houses in 1929 - since when (and this is important for the argument) the Jockey Club Rules have been altered considerably. The play focuses on the two loves of Garry Anson’s life: horses and his feelings for Lady Panniford.

Premiered at Wyndham’s Theatre on 18 September 1929.
