Play synopsis: 'A northern quartet, led by a grabbing councillor, set out to buy a residential enclave - the Polygon - and make a private profit before selling it to improve the town amenities. Much northern humour and determination on the lines of making the brass, thwarted by the councillor’s daughter [...]' (Mary Crozier, writing in The Guardian, 27 February 1960, p. 5).
Production history: The original title of the play was Graft. The first stage production was made under the title of The Polygon by the Play Actors’ Society at the Court Theatre, London in 1911. It was performed at the Gaiety Theatre, Manchester in 1912.
