Play synopsis

'The story begins in England one August morning in the year 1906, but the action soon shifts to Italy where Philip Herriton and Caroline Abbott are brought together in common concern for a motherless baby. The mother was English, the father is Italian -- a situation fraught with possible misunderstandings’ (Radio Times, 24 October 1963, p. 30).
