Play synopsis

This play has a strong religious and moral theme, set after the end of the Huguenot Wars. A Huguenot aristocrat, recognizing in a stranger who seeks asylum in his castle the murderer of his wife, determines to carry out a plan of vengeance. But int he resulting ethical struggle in his conscience, he realises that he cannot win true justice in the eyes of God.
