Play synopsis: 'A pleasant frolic, the play is really a tale of two sisters, Frynne and Lola. Both were on the stage, though Frynne forsook the profession after a very promising debut... Lola, however, persisted long enough to become a considerable star in the days when, as she puts it, stars used to "lie on tiger skins throwing grapes at young men." Then she, too, retired from the stage under the excuse of ill-health. But not before she had acquired a husband, in the rather hearty shape of Archie Leadenhall. They separated some time ago, but it is Archie’s reappearance that sets the pot boiling now - that, and the fact that Frynne’s beauty parlour, on which both sisters depend for money, is hopelessly in the red. For Archie wants to re-marry - his choice being an athletic young lady from the shires; and this, of course, involves obtaining Lola’s consent to a divorce. At the same time Frynne has the inspiration of starting a rival to the Monte Carlo casino in her own house in Notting Hill Gate...' (Radio Times, 9 October 1953, p. 15.)
