Play synopsis: The New Morality is a satirical social comedy set on a houseboat on the Thames in 1914. Colonel Jones has been flirting with Muriel, who lives on the next-door houseboat. The Colonel’s wife, Betty confronts Muriel about the relationship, and their overheard argument disrupts the delicate skein of relationships in the eccentric community.
Production history: Written before the First World War (in which Chapin was killed) but first produced for a single Sunday-night production in London in 1920 and then presented at the Kingsway Theatre in 1925.
