Play synopsis

The play ‘shows us a scene in the 1840s, in which the celebrated Mrs. Fry (prison reformer and Quakeress) receives in her old age a visit from a young girl burning to work for humanity, and, out of her own disillusion, attempts to dissuade her’ (Lionel Hale, ‘Black and White’, Radio Times, 5 May 1950, p. 49).
